Bulger Deal Coming?
Saturday, May 26, 2007
The Rams have gotten good at keepiing their stars off the free agent market in recent years. As the end of Marc Bulgers contract nears, the team's number one priority this season is to give the star quarterback a new contract. Bulger is coming off his best season as a starter.Bulger has been quoted ""I'd love to finish my career here." This is a good sign for Rams fans. It appears a deal is close to being made, but may not come too soon. The sooner the deal gets done, the less Bulger has to worry about the future. If a deal gets done before the season begins or not, Bulger still should put up big numbers playing in St. Louis' high powered offense this year.
As of now, Bulger's backup is Gus Frerotte. Frerotte has 13 years of experience of his own and his career is coming to an end. The team has seen what third string QB, Ryan Fitzpatrick, can bring to the field in 2005 when injuries let him step in. The team may look into a long term backup in the near future for a safety pin in case Bulger gets hurt again.

Rams Bring in Adams
Friday, May 25, 2007
The Rams brought in big 350 lb Sam Adams for a tryout on Thursday. This coming just ten days after Adams was released by Cincinatti. Though no contract was offered, there does appear to be some interest in bringing in Adams to fortify the nose tackle position. Adams does have some injury concerns, but when he is healthy, he can do a great job clogging up the middle.

Rams Rookie Minicamp Opens Today
Saturday, May 12, 2007
First round pick, Adam Carriker is one of 32 players that will come in St. Louis this weekend for the team’s rookie minicamp. The group includes all eight drafted rookies, 20 undrafted free agents and four first-year veterans. Many of the players will get evaluated, hoping to earn a roster spot. For the draft picks, it's a chance to come in get firmiliar with some of the players, coaches, drills, and plays. It's a major learning experience for all players.
Players were fitted for their uniforms friday, and introduced to the playbooks. As players walk into the lockerrooms and see the lockers of players like Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce, and Leonard Little, they are in awe.
"Carriker and many of his new teammates spent Friday playing the part of the awestruck kid. Tennessee cornerback Jonathan Wade said he spent about 10 minutes in front of receiver Torry Holt’s locker counting his shoes and looking on in awe. Undrafted defensive end Alton Pettway waxed about being in the locker room once inhabited by Marshall Faulk and having a locker next to Leonard Little. " - Nick Wagoner, St. Louis Rams Senior Writer

Rookie Minicamp info
WHEN: Saturday and Sunday.
WHERE: Rams Park in Earth City.
SCHEDULE: Practices from 10:30 a.m.-12:10 p.m. and 3:35 p.m.-5:05 p.m. both days.

A Look at the Projected Rams Depth Chart Part II
Thursday, May 10, 2007
First Team Primary Backup Backups

DE
James Hall Victor Adeyanju Eric Moore
As of now, this is James Hall spot. Carriker may come in and take it in training camp, but he is listed as a DT now. Adeyanju will see his playing time, but he won't be a starter.
DT
Jimmy Kennedy Adam Carriker Clifton Ryan
Kennedy never played up to his potential, but he still is in a starting role. If Carriker does stay at DT, He will push for the spot.
DT
La'Roi Glover Claude Wroten
Unless Wroten shows the coaches a lot, he won't be starting any time soon, this is La'Roi's spot.
DE
Leonard Little Michael Brown Trevor Johnson
Little is one of the best players to wear the Blue and Gold in the last 10 years. He has been dominate and consistent for the most part. No chance for him to get benched.
OLB
Pisa Tinoisamoa Jon Alston
Pisa is becoming a major part of this defensive unit. Each year he has gotten better. Alston is a good enough athlete to see the field sometime. If the coaches do choose to move him to a safety position, It may allow Bartell to move back to CB. Otherwise, Alston can dominate special teams.
MLB
Will Witherspoon Chris Draft Tim McGarigle
Witherspoon was a great addition last offseason. He is the centerpiece of this defense and will continue to be. Bringing in Draft is just to add depth and help out on special teams.
OLB
Brandon Chillar Raonall Smith
Chillar started to become a decent starter last season. I think he will improve more this year and become a decent starter.
CB
Fakhir Brown Jerametrius Butler Lenny Walls
The Rams are short of depth at CB. Brown is the start, but it is unsure if Butler will even make the squad.
CB
Tye Hill Mike Rumph Jonathan Wade
Hill is the other starter at CB. Rumph is another guy who may not even make the roster. Wade may get playing time if all plays out right. I think Bartell should move back to CB, and Todd Johnson could fill his spot at backing up Atogwe.
FS
Oshiomogho Atogwe Ron Bartell
Oshiomogho came on strong late last year and will be the starter again this year. He has enough talent to become one of the Leagues better safeties. Bartell is his backup for now, though as i said before, he should play CB.
SS
Corey Chavous Jerome Carter Todd Johnson
Chavous played pretty well last year. He is the starter without much contest. Carter has played well too when he sees the field, but it wont move him to a starter role. Johnson just adds depth at both safety spots.

A Look at the 2007 Rams Projected Depth Chart
Wednesday, May 09, 2007
First Team Primary Backup Backups

QB

Marc Bulger Gus Frerotte Ryan Fitzpatrick Drew Tate
Bulger is the starter, hands down. There is no competition, there won't be for a long time. Most likely, Frerotte will be his backup, and Tate will have to impress the coaches to make the roster.
RB
Steven Jackson Brian Leonard Travis Minor Kay-Jay Harris

Same situation here, Jackson is the starter, hands down. He is emerging as an elite back in this league and has his best years yet to come. Rookie Brian Leonard will probably slip into the second spot on the depth chart due to the lack of talent after Jackson. Leonard will get his carries when Jackson gets tired or injured. Other backs that aren't listed will have a tough time making the active roster.
FB
Madison Hedgecock

Unless a free agent comes in or they move one of their current RBs to FB, this is Hedgecock's job and he is getting better at it. FB really isn't used too much in the Rams offense.
LWR
Torry Holt Drew Bennett Dominique Thompson Willie Ponder

Holt is the man at WR. He will go for another Pro Bowl year, and chances are, he may get it in this offense. Bennett was brought in to help replace Curtis and McDonald. He should be able to do that and more. He can still be a big threat. 5th WR is a battle between a few players. The losers may not make the squad.
RWR
Isaac Bruce Dane Looker Dante' Hall Marques Hagans

Bruce doen't have many years left in him, but he still can be productive and he should put up good numbers. Looker will have to battle Hall for the 4th receiver slot. Hall has never been too much for a WR and his open field skills may not be what the were a few years ago. Hagans will be in the battle for 5th WR
TE
Randy McMichael Joe Klopfenstein Aaron Walker Dominique Byrd

After drafting 2 TEs last year, Linehan brought in Randy McMichael from Miami. McMichael will come in and be another target for Bulger. They may even run more two TE formations, allowing Klopfenstein to get some catches. Walker will battle Bryd for the 3rd TE slot.
ORT
Alex Barron Todd Steussie Kendrick Shackleford

Like most of the Rams offensive positions, This is Barron's spot and he won't lose it. Stuessie played well when he saw the field, but Barron is young and talented. Shackleford is just a rookie trying to learn. He may get his shot in the future.
ORG
Richie Incognito Adam Goldberg
Things get a little interesting now. Incognito can be considered a G or a C. He has a shot at starting at either. If he does play C, Goldberg would move into the starting role.
C
Andy McCollum Brett Romberg Dustin Fry

Depending on what Incognito does, McCollum is the starter. He has been for a while and probably should be.Fry will battle Romberg for a backup role.
OLG
Claude Terrell Mark Setterstrom
Terrell should be the starter here, but there has been talks of Setterstrom slipping into this role.
OLT
Orlando Pace Jeremy Parquet

The Rams anchor is Orlando Pace. If he can stay healthy, the run game will be better, the pass game will be better, and even the defense will be better. He helps everything. he has no chance at losing his starting spot.

Breaking down the Draft - AFC West
Tuesday, May 08, 2007
Denver Broncos
Who They Took:
1.(17) DE Jarvis Moss, Florida
2.(56) DE Tim Crowder, Texas
3.(70) OT Ryan Harris, Notre Dame
4.(121) DT Marcus Thomas, Florida
Key Team Needs:

1. Defensive end 2. Safety 3. Defensive tackle 4. Offensive line 5. Wide receiver
The Bottom Line:

Denver didn't have a busy day two, but they found a way to fill some of their needs. I like both their first two picks, both DEs. Moss is a great pass rusher and should develop into a great player with his athletic ability. Crowder is not as quick, but still can get the job done. He has been a starter from year one and has been productive every year. He too should develop into a good pro. Harris slipped into early round three and it is a good pick for the Broncos. Like Crowder, Harris has been a starter since his true freshman year. He has the experience and he has the physical tools to play left tackle for a long time in the NFL. The Broncos' last pick came in Moss' defensive line teammate at Florida with Marcus Thomas. Thomas hurt his draft stock when he was suspended during his senior year. If he works on his character, he should develop into a good pro as well. With only four players taken this season, the Broncos still had a really productive draft.
Grade:
B+

Kansas City Chiefs
Who They Took:
1.(23) WR Dwayne Bowe, LSU
2.(54) DE Turk McBride, Tennessee
3.(82) DT Tank Tyler, North Carolina St.
5.(148) RB Kolby Smith, Louisville
5.(160) DE Justin Medlock, UCLA
6.(196) OT Herbert Taylor, TCU
7.(231) TE Michael Allan, Whitworth
Key Team Needs:

1. Offensive line 2. Cornerback 3. Defensive end 4. Wide receiver 5. Defensive tackle
The Bottom Line:

I think Dwayne Bowe has a lot of potential and should develop into a good #1 WR. They wanted help on the D-Line and they got some with Turk and Tank. Both are big bodies that can get in there and make plays. I like the pick of Medlock, even though Kickers aren't needed too bad this year. He has a great leg and probably shouldn't find it too hard to find a starting job. The Chiefs didn't do too much to improve DBs and O-Line.
Grade:
C+

Oakland Raiders
Who They Took:
1.(1) QB JaMarcus Russell, LSU
2.(38) TE Zach Miller, Arizona St
3.(65) DE Quentin Moses, Georgia
3.(91) OT Mario Henderson, Florida St
3.(99) WR Johnnie Lee Higgins, UTEP
4.(100) RB Michael Bush, Louisville
4.(110) CB John Bowie, Cincinnati
5.(138) DE Jay Richardson, Ohio State
5.(165) S Eric Frampton, Washington St.
6.(175) RB Oren O'Neal, Arkansas St.
Key Team Needs:

1. Quarterback 2. Offensive tackle 3. Defensive tackle 4. Wide receiver 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:

Having the #1 overall pick usually means, you will have a good draft. Well, The Raiders had a great draft. Russell appears to be the best quarterback in the draft, or at least the biggest. He has a rocket arm and he has enough accuracy to get it done. Zach Miller isn't too far behind Greg Olsen, and I think Olsen was a top 10 prospect. Moses could have gone late round one or early round two, but he was a steal early round three. He has great pass rush ability and athleticism to make it at the next level. Getting Michael Bush on day two may have been the best pick of the second day. Bush was dominate during his junior year and was on pace to do it again as a senior, but a broken leg held him back. His only question is his durability, otherwise, he could have been a round one pick. Great Draft for an improving team. Their Defense already is at a competitive level, and their offense may be their now.
Grade:
B+

San Diego Chargers

Who They Took:
1.(30) WR Craig Davis, LSU
2.(37) S Eric Weddle, Utah
3.(96) LB Anthony Waters, Clemson
4.(129) TE Scott Chandler, Iowa
5.(172) WR Legedu Naanee, Boise State
7.(240) LB Brandon Siler, Florida
7.(254) WR Jonathan Holland, Louisiana Tech
Key Team Needs:

1. Safety 2. Wide receiver 3. Offensive tackle 4. Linebacker 5. Nose tackle
The Bottom Line:

The Chargers don't have many needs. The few they had, they filled fairly well. Davis probably was picked a little high, but he still is a good receiver. Weddle was picked high also but his ball skills are tremendous. He totaled 18 interceptions in his four seasons at Utah. At the beginning of the season, I thought Scott Chandler would have gone higher then he actually did. He is a big target, but plays too much like a WR. I like the pick of Siler in round seven. I though Siler could have gone as high as third round. He should have gone higher then the seventh. He has been successful in college and is a born leader. Just an average draft for an above average team.

Breaking Down The Draft - AFC South
Monday, May 07, 2007
Houston Texans
Who They Took:
1.(10) DT Amobi Okoye, Louisville
3.(73) WR Jacoby Jones, Lane College
4.(123) CB Fred Bennett, South Carolina
5.(144) S Brandon Harrison, Stanford
5.(163) OT Brandon Frye, Virginia Tech
6.(183) OG Kasey Studdard, Texas
7.(218) LB Zach Diles, Kansas St.
Key Draft Needs:
1. Offensive tackle 2. Cornerback 3. Wide receiver 4. Linebacker 5. Defensive tackle
The Bottom Line:
Scouts had Okoye rising and rising all the way up near the top five. In reality, He is an unknown who probably fell right around where he should have. He's still very young, 19, and no one knows how he will handle the NFL. Jones is another question mark. He comes from a small school so you don't know how he will handle the NFL. He too fell right around projected, but having two guys with questions like that may end up hurting in the long run, or it could really turn out well. I like the pick of Bennett in round four. He has the size and cover skills to match up well in the NFL. I'm not sold on much of the Texans draft as of now not having a round two pick doesn't help.
Grade:
C+

Indianapolis Colts
Who They Took:
1.(32) WR Anthony Gonzalez, Ohio St.
2.(42) OG Tony Ugoh, Arkansas
3.(95) CB Daymeion Hughes, California
4.(98) DT Quinn Pitcock, Ohio St.
4.(131) S Brannon Condren, Troy
4.(136) LB Clint Session, Pittsburgh
7.(242) DE Keyunta Dawson, Texas Tech
Key Draft Needs:
1. Linebacker 2. Cornerback 3. Running back 4. Tight end 5. Defensive line
The Bottom Line:
Although, the Colts didn't really follow their needs, they filled their holes. Gonzalez should turn out to be a great slot receiver behind Harrison and Wayne. He replaces Brandon Stokley. Ugoh was a highly recruited player coming from high school. His choice of Arkansas may have hurt his draft status slightly, but he still is a great player. I really like both picks of Hughes and Pitcock. Both players started the offseason as first round projections, but as things advanced, they fell. Both players have extreme talent when they play to their potential. Both should have good careers in an improving defense. I put the colts in my draft winners category for a reason, they had a great draft.
Grade:

Jacksonville Jaguars
Who They Took:
1.(21) S Reggie Nelson, Florida
2.(48) LB Justin Durant, Hampton
3.(79) WR Mike Walker, Central Florida
4.(101) P Adam Podlesh, Maryland
4.(113) DE Brian Smith, Missouri
5.(149) OG Uche Nwaneri, Purdue
5.(150) S Josh Gattis, Wake Forest
5.(166) DT Derek Landri, Notre Dame
7.(229) WR John Broussard, San Jose St.
7.(251) S Chad Nkang, Elon College
7.(252) OT Andrew Carnahan, Arizona St
Key Draft Needs:
1. Defensive back 2. Wide receiver 3. Quarterback 4. Offensive line 5. Defensive line
The Bottom Line:
The Jags had eleven total picks, eight of which came on day two. Nelson was a good senior season and shouldn't have too much trouble transferring it to the pros this season. He is very athletic and can even play CB if needed. Durant may have gone a little high. He played good in his entire college career, but needs to toughen up some. He could develop into a good pro eventually. The Jags elected to not draft a QB and stick with Leftwich, Garrard and Grey. Other then that, they tried to address their needs.
Grade:

Tennessee Titans
Who They Took:
1.(19) S Michael Griffin, Texas
2.(50) RB Chris Henry, Arizona
3.(80) WR Paul Williams, Fresno St.
4.(115) C Leroy Harris, NC State
4.(128) WR Chris Davis, Florida St.
5.(152) DT Antonio Johnson, Mississippi St.
6.(188) WR Joel Filani, Texas Tech
6.(204) DE Jacob Ford, Central Arkansas
6.(206) CB Ryan Smith, Florida
7.(223) OT Mike Otto, Purdue
Key Draft Needs:
1. Wide receiver 2. Cornerback 3. Running back 4. Defensive tackle 5. Safety
The Bottom Line:
The Titans liked Griffin's physical ability enough to use the 19th pick on him. He's got the talent, he just needs to polish his tackling. Chris Henry is a guy i liked. i wanted him to fall to St. Louis in round three. When he was taken mid round two, I knew that was too high for him. he is good, but not that good. There were lots of better backs available at the time. I like the pick of Chris Davis in round four. He is a good football player, but he never got the chance to shine playing on a week passing team. Overall, not too good of a draft at this time, but nothing too bad either.

Breaking Down The Draft - AFC North

Baltimore Ravens
Who They Took:
1.(29) OG Ben Grubbs, Auburn
3.(74) WR Yamon Figurs, Kansas St.
3.(86) OT Marshall Yanda, Iowa
4.(134) LB Antwan Barnes, Florida International
4.(137) FB Le'Ron McClain, Alabama
6.(207) LB Prescott Burgess, Michigan
Key Team Needs:

1. Offensive line 2. Linebacker 3. Running back 4. Cornerback 5. Defensive tackle
They Bottom Line:

Baltimore has a very solid team. They addressed offensive line right away with Grubbs, who should turn out to be a great player. After not picking in round two, they made a surprising pick with Yamon Figurs. Figurs is talented, but his main role may be a return man. Normally, you don't use a third round pick on a return man. I like the pick of Burgess in round seven. He may turn out to be their next Adalius Thomas type player. He is very athletic and can play LB or S if needed. For what they had and what they needed, this was an average draft.
Grade:
C+

Cincinatti Bengals

Who They Took:
1.(18) CB Leon Hall, Michigan
2.(49) RB Kenny Irons, Auburn
4.(114) S Marvin White, TCU
5.(151) QB Jeff Rowe, Nevada
6.(187) DT Matt Toeaina, Oregon
7.(230) OG Dan Santucci, Notre Dame
7.(253) S Nedu Ndukwe, Notre Dame
Key Team Needs:

1. Cornerback 2. Tight end 3. Defensive tackle 4. Saftey 5. Guard/Center
They Bottom Line:

The Bengals got a gift when Leon Hall slipped to 18. Hall could be considered the top CB in the draft and could have gone in the top ten. THe Bengals needed defensive back help and Hall will help. I like Kenny Irons, but I don't really know if this was the best pick for the bengals in the second round. Their was still a lot of good players availible and running back isn't that high of a need. They must not have too much confidence in Chris Perry. Other then those two players, a pretty basic draft, nothing that stands out to me.
Grade:
C+

Cleveland Browns

Who They Took:
1.(3) OT Joe Thomas, Wisconsin
1.(22) QB Brady Quinn, Notre Dame
2.(53) CB Eric Wright, UNLV
5.(140) CB Brandon McDonald, Memphis
6.(200) DE Melila Purcell, Hawaii
7.(213) DE Chase Pittman, LSU
7.(234) WR Syndric Steptoe, Arizona
Key Team Needs:

1. Cornerback 2. Offensive tackle 3. Wide receiver 4. Nose tackle 5. Quarterback
They Bottom Line:

The Browns may have had the best first day of this years draft, but their day two wasn't nearly as good. Obviously, fans have heard plenty obout Thomas, the dominating tackle from Wisconsin, and Quinn, the golden boy who slipped down to his hometown team. Eric Wright has the talent level, but his experience and off the field issues may hurt his career. After transfering away from USC after only one season from suspicion of rape, Wright only played one year at UNLV before declaring for the draft. If he keeps his record clean and plays to his potential, cleveland should have 3 players to build a great team off of. I like the pick of Chase Johnson in the seventh round. He has good size and uses his hands well. The Browns were a perfect fit for him. This years draft doesn't reflect that they will not have a 2008 first round pick, but on paper, this class looks good.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Who They Took:
1.(15) LB Lawrence Timmons, Florida St.
2.(46) DE LaMarr Woodley, Michigan
3.(77) TE Matt Spaeth, Minnesota
4.(112) P Daniel Sepulveda, Baylor
4.(132) DE Ryan McBean, Oklahoma St.
5.(156) OG Cameron Stephenson, Rutgers
5.(170) CB William Gay, Louisville
7.(227) WR Dallas Baker, Florida
Key Team Needs:

1. Linebacker 2. Cornerback 3. Running back 4. Defensive line 5. Center/Guard
They Bottom Line:

Lawrence Timmons should turn into a great player in the pros. It shouldn't take long for him to come in, learn the system, and dominate the league. Woodley is an interesting pick in the second round. There were a lot of ends off the boards by this time. Woodley is athletic enough to play DE or OLB. He may not contribute as early as Timmons, but should put up decent numbers during his career. I like the pick of Dallas Baker in round seven. Baker has improved every year through college. He probably could have gone early day two, but his speed didn't wow anyone. He may slip into playing time and get a good number of catches as a rookie. The Steelers took care of the need at LB and DE, but didn't do too much else to improve right now.

Buffalo Bills
Who They Took:
1.(12) RB Marshawn Lynch, California
2.(34) LB Paul Posluszny, Penn State
3.(92) QB Trent Edwards, Stanford
4.(111) RB Dwayne Wright, Fresno St.
6.(184) S John Wendling, Wyoming
7.(222) TE Derek Schouman, Boise St.
7.(239) DE C.J. Ah You, Oklahoma
Key Team Needs:
1. Linebacker 2. Cornerback 3. Running back 4. Offensive tackle 5. Wide receiver
The Bottom Line:
Many people believe Lynch was a reach at 12, and so do I. I feel, talent-wise, he probably should have been a late round one to early round two pick. Since there was almost no other backs even close to Peterson, he went higher then expected. He still will get a chance to start most likely and may have a decent season. Getting Posluszny early round two should make up for the pick of Lynch. Posluszny could have been a mid to late round one pick, but slipping into the second round may motivate him to compete at an even higher level. He may be this years DeMeco Ryans. Though J.P. Losman started coming on pretty good near the end of the season, the Bills still looked into finding a backup and picked up Stanford's Trent Edwards. Edwards can be a great QB if he stays healthy. The pick of Wright is kind of strange. Having already drafted Lynch in round one, I guess they just want someone to split some carries for Lynch and give him some breathers sometimes. Their Draft as a whole was better then it looks, but still not as good as it could have been.

Who They Took:
1.(9) WR Ted Ginn, Jr., Ohio State
2.(40) QB John Beck, BYU
2.(60) C Samson Satele, Hawaii

4.(108) DT Paul Soliai, Utah
6.(181) FB Reagan Mauia, Hawaii
6.(199) C Drew Mormino, Central Michigan
7.(219) LB Kelvin Smith, Syracuse
7.(225) P Brandon Fields, Michigan St.
7.(238) DE Abraham Wright, Colorado
Key Team Needs:

1. Offensive tackle 2. Safety 3. Linebacker 4. Defensive tackle 5. Cornerback
The Bottom Line:
I'm not sure who is in charge of the Dolphins recruiting because either he read the wrong notes, or he didn't pay too much attention. Having Brady Quinn on the board was a blessing for them and they passed on it. They passed on it for an injuries receiver that they think can really make a difference "in the return game." You don't use a top ten pick for a return man. He isn't nearly as good of a receiver as Calvin Johnson and probably isn't as good as Bowe, Meachem, Davis, Jarrett, and Gonzalez. The two things he has going for him is speed and excitement. They did take John Beck in round two. He can be a good QB, but didn't play against the best competition every week so it may be hard to judge. I like the pick of Lorenzo Booker in round three. Booker will have a chance right away to play as a third down back most likely. With it looking more and more like Ricky Williams isn't coming back, Booker may split some time with Brown. For their situation, not a good draft.

7.(247) C Mike Elgin, Iowa
Key Team Needs:

1. Linebacker 2. Cornerback 3. Safety 4. Running back 5. Offensive tackle
The Bottom Line:

Belichick has to be one of the best coaches of all time. Already having had one of the best offseasons this year, he went out and got Randy Moss for a fourth round pick. Moss makes it 20 receivers on the roster. Having two round one picks to start the day, they could afford to trade one of them down. They used the other one to select Brandon Meriweather from "The U." There were some questions about Meriweather's character but if any coach can correct that, it's Belichick. That put a wrap on their day one picks. They traded all their other picks away. I like the pick of Oscar Lua in round seven. If Lua plays up to his potential, he could be a real sleeper.
If you throw out the Moss trade, this may be a really weak draft, but somehow Belichick will make it into a great one.

New York Jets
Who They Took:
1.(14) CB Darrelle Revis, Pittsburgh
2.(47) LB David Harris, Michigan
6.(177) OT Jacob Bender, Nicholls St.
7.(235) WR Chansi Stuckey, Clemson
Key Team Needs:

1. Cornerback 2. Defensive end 3. Defensive tackle 4. Offensive tackle 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:

The Jets went quality over quantity. They traded up twice to get Darrelle Revis and David Harris in the first two rounds. Both players fell lower then they should have. Harris could have been a mid round one pick but slipped into mid round two. I believe Chasi Stuckey is a sleeper as well. He probably should have been taken higher. He has the talent and speed, but he isn't the biggest. Some teams may have passed on him because of injury concerns, but I still believe he may put up good stats as a rookie. This was a good class, it's just a problem only having four picks the entire draft.

Breaking Down The Draft - NFC South

Atlanta Falcons
Who They Took:
1.(8) DE Jamaal Anderson, Arkansas
2.(39) OT Justin Blalock, Texas
2.(41) CB Chris Houston, Arkansas
3.(75) WR Laurent Robinson, Illinois St.
4.(109) LB Stephen Nicholas, South Florida
4.(133) TE Martrez Milner, Georgia
6.(185) DT Trey Lewis, Washburn
6.(194) CB David Irons, Auburn
6.(198) C Doug Datish, Ohio St.
6.(203) S Daren Stone, Maine
7.(244) RB Jason Snelling, Virginia
Key Team Needs:
1. Offensive tackle 2. Defensive back 3. Defensive end 4. Wide receiver 5. Defensive tackle
The Bottom Line:
Having eleven picks always helps, but the Falcons had a solid draft this season. They were set on Anderson for a while now. He is big, athletic, and is just a natural athlete. Blalock is a big power blocker that can play guard or tackle. he could become a starter early in his career and not give it up for a while. Houston could have been a late first rounder, bust second round seems a bit more fitting for him. He has done a lot of his coverage pressing receivers which may not translate too well to the Pros. Good coaching will allow him to adjust like he needs to. I like the pick of David Irons in round six. If Irons can play up to his potential, he may have a good career at the next level. He has the speed and quickness, he just needs to work on his coverage skills. This was possibly one of the better drafts at filling needs.

Carolina Panthers
Who They Took:
1.(25) LB Jon Beason, Miami
2.(45) WR Dwayne Jarrett, USC
2.(59) C Ryan Kalil, USC
3.(83) DE Charles Johnson, Georgia
4.(118) WR Ryne Robinson, Miami (OH)
5.(155) TE Dante Rosario, Oregon
5.(164) LB Tim Shaw, Penn St.
7.(226) CB C.J. Wilson, Baylor
Key Team Needs:
1. Linebacker 2. Offensive tackle 3. Tight end 4. Running back 5. Defensive tackle
The Bottom Line:
I believe Carolina had one of the best drafts this year and it really shows by the talent they got all the way into day two. Beason is a beast. Coming from "The U" is a good place for a LB to get noticed. He knows how to get through blocks and can tackle like the best of them. Round two may have been almost just as good of a pick. Although his 40 time hurt his stock a lot, I believe Dwayne Jarrett will show up as the second best receiver in this years draft two Calvin Johnson, who is on another planet. Jarrett defiantly has the size and he has been consistent throughout his career at USC. He makes big catches in big games. I believe his "field speed" is easily good enough to put up big numbers in the NFL. Another USC player in Ryan Kalil probably could have gone a bunch higher as well. I think he was the best center in the draft. Like Jarrett, Kalil has been consistent. He could be the leader of the Carolina line for a lot of years. Johnson is a guy who wasn't gifted with his skills, he earned everything he's gotten so far. He plays hard and can make plays. Though they dint get much into their needs, still a great draft for the Panthers.
Grade:

New Orleans Saints
Who They Took:
1.(27) WR Robert Meachem, Tennessee
3.(66) CB Usama Young, Kent State
3.(88) OG Andy Alleman, Akron
4.(107) RB Antonio Pittman, Ohio St.
4.(125) OT Jermon Bushrod, Towson
5.(145) CB David Jones, Wingate
7.(220) LB Marvin Mitchell, Tennessee
Key Team Needs:
1. Cornerback 2. Linebacker 3. Defensive tackle 4. Wide receiver 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:
Though WR wasn't their biggest need, Sean Payton liked Meachem, with good reason. He is naturally athletic and he can make plays after the catch. He put up great numbers during his Junior year, setting Tennessee's single season receiving yards record. He can come in and replace Horn's absence. He still will have to compete with Colston, Henderson, and Copper. Young was a reach for round three, he probably could have been available for another round or maybe even two. I like the pick of Pittman in round four. I think he could have gone late second to early third round. Already having drafted Reggie Bush last year, and having Deuce McAllister getting back to old form, Pittman may get lost in the shuffle. If the Saints give McAllister a breather and line Bush up as a receiver, Pittman may get some playing time. Overall, not the best draft, but the Saints didn't have too many needs.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Who They Took:
1.(4) DE Gaines Adams, Florida
2.(35) OT Arron Sears, Tennessee
2.(64) S Sabby Piscitelli, Oregon St.
3.(68) LB Quincy Black, New Mexico
4.(106) CB Tanard Jackson, Syracuse
5.(141) DE Greg Peterson, N. Carolina Central
6.(182) LB Adam Hayward, Portland St.
7.(214) OT Chris Denman, Fresno St.
7.(245) CB Marcus Hamilton, Virginia
7.(246) RB Ken Darby, Alabama
Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive end 2. Defensive tackle 3. Wide receiver 4. Safety 5. Offensive tackle
The Bottom Line:
Tampa decided to go defense this year. Six of the team's first seven picks were on the defensive side of the ball. Gaines Adams is a special player. He has great size and ability. He uses his hands great to get through blockers. He may be the next Dwight Freeney in the league. I really like the pick of Piscitelli with the last pick of round two. Piscitelli is a lot like Adam Archuleta was back in the days of Lovie Smith in St. Louis. He plays like a linebacker with the athleticism of a safety. Will battle right away for a starting role. Getting Darby in the seventh round should be considered a steal. If he can stay healthy and play to his full potential, he may get a chance to not only make a roster, but start someday. Still a pretty good draft for Tampa.

Grading the Draft
NFC East
Dallas Cowboys
Who They Took:
1.(26) DE Anthony Spencer, Purdue

3.(67) OT James Marten, Boston College
4.(102) QB Isaiah Stanback, Washington
4.(122) OT Doug Free, N. Illinois
6.(178) K Nick Folk, Arizona
6.(195) RB Deon Anderson, Connecticut
7.(212) CB Courtney Brown, Cal Poly
7.(237) CB Alan Ball, Illinois
Key Team Needs:
1. Safety 2. Wide receiver 3. Defensive line 4. Offensive line 5. Cornerback
The Bottom Line:
They did address D-Line and O-Line with their first two picks, but Spencer may have been a slight reach. A lot of DEs went off the board early, but I feel they could have looked elsewhere with their first pick. Having only two day one picks normally doesn't allow teams to end up with a solid draft class, I feel that is just the case here. Stanback probably wasn't the best QB availible in round 4, but he is athletic and he may not even be used as a QB. All in All, not a great draft, they didn't address DB early enough.

New York Giants
Who They Took:
1.(20) CB Aaron Ross, Texas

2.(51) WR Steve Smith, USC
3.(81) DT Jay Alford, Penn State
4.(116) LB Zak DeOssie, Brown
5.(153) TE Kevin Boss, Western Oregon
6.(189) OT Adam Koets, Oregon St.
7.(224) S Michael Johnson, Arizona
7.(250) RB Ahmad Bradshaw, Marshall
Key Team Needs:
1. Cornerback 2. Wide receiver 3. Linebacker 4. Saftey 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:
This was a good draft for the G-Men. Aaron Ross is a special athlete with huge playmaking ability not just as a CB but in the return game. Steve Smith is another player that can come in and make plays. Right away Smith will battle Sinorice Moss for the third receiver. They actually addressed their needs pretty well throughout the draft. I think Ahmad Bradshaw may come in and surprise some people on his talent.
Grade:

Philadelphia Eagles
Who They Took:
2.(36) QB Kevin Kolb, Houston

2.(57) DE Victor Abiamiri, Notre Dame
3.(87) LB Stewart Bradley, Nebraska
3.(90) RB Tony Hunt, Penn State
5.(159) S C.J. Gaddis, Clemson
5.(162) TE Brent Celek, Cincinnati
6.(201) CB Rashad Barksdale, Albany
7.(236) RB Nate Ilaoa, Hawaii
Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive back 2. Defensive end 3. Linebacker 4. Running back 5. Wide receiver
The Bottom Line:
No First round pick for the Eagles this season and using their first pick on Kevin Kolb is not gonna win fans over. I think undrafted QBs like Matt Moore and Jared Zebransky had a chance to go higher then Kolb, but Andy Reid must have saw something special in him. Abiamiri was a decent pick in round two. He has the natural size and talent needed but may need a little more motivation to reach full potential. I like all three of their next three selections; Bradley and Hunt in round three and Gaddis in round 5. Bradley is a versitile LB that may develope into a starter. Hunt could have, and probably should have, gone higher. AT one point, he was right with Lynch as second rated RB in the draft. Gaddis can play CB and S. He probablt could have raised his draft stock had he stayed in school another year, but he still has the size and athleticism to compete. After the first muff with Kolb, not a horrible draft for Philly.

Washington Redskins
Who They Took:
1.(6) S LaRon Landry, LSU

5.(143) LB Dallas Sartz, USC
6.(179) LB H.B. Blades, Pittsburgh
6.(205) QB Jordan Palmer, UTEP
7.(216) TE Tyler Ecker, Michigan
Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive line 2. Offensive line 3. Linebacker 4. Defensive back 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:
Where did all Washington's picks go? Gibbs likes to deal and it shouws by the lack of Picks this season. Having only one pick in the first four rounds normally isn't too good. I do think for only having 5 total picks, Washington had a good draft. Landry is an impact player that can make a difference filling the void of Archuleta and Vincent. Although having he and Sean Taylor in the same secondary may cause some coverage mismatches. Sartz is an athletic LB. He may develope into a good football player if he stays healthy. Blades may not have the size to dominate, but he plays tough and tackles well. Plamer is still developing as a QB, but he is learning from a good one in his brother Carson. Ecker may develope into a solid backup and maybe even a starter down the road.

Chicago Bears
Who They Took:
1.(31) TE Greg Olsen, Miami
2.(62) DE Dan Bazuin, Central Michigan
3.(93) RB Garrett Wolfe, Northern Illinois
3.(94) LB Michael Okwo, Stanford
4.(130) OG Josh Beekman, Boston College
5.(167) S Kevin Payne, Louisiana-Monroe
5.(168) CB Corey Graham, New Hampshire
7.(221) CB Trumaine McBride, Mississippi
7.(241) OT Aaron Brant, Iowa St.

Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive back 2. Tight end 3. Linebacker 4. Defensive tackle 5. Offensive line
The Bottom Line:
Greg Olsen was a steal at the 31st overall pick. Many scouts, included me, had him going a lot higher. I actually had him at 16 to Green Bay. He is a special player that wil have a great career ahead of him. With rumors that a DE like Agunleye may get traded to make more playing time for rookie phenom, Mark Anderson, the pick of Bazuin makes some sence. I don't agree with drafting Garrett Wolfe on day one at all. He will battle Adrian Peterson and undrafted rookie Darius Walker for the third down back position. I feel he could have been availible in round five or six. I also htink he may only contirbute in special teams and the Bears don't need help in that area. They tried to add some depth at DB by drafting 2 CBs and a S on day two. Overall, not the best draft.

Detroit Lions
Who They Took:
1.(2) WR Calvin Johnson, Georgia Tech
2.(43) QB Drew Stanton, Michigan St.
2.(58) DE Ikaika Alama-Francis, Hawaii
2.(61) S Gerald Alexander, Boise St.
4.(105) CB A.J. Davis, North Carolina St.
4.(117) OG Manuel Ramirez, Texas Tech
5.(158) LB Johnny Baldwin, Alabama A&M
7.(255) CB Ramzee Robinson, Alabama
Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive end 2. Offensive tackle 3. Cornerback 4. Linebacker 5. Tight end
The Bottom Line:
Calvin Johnson was the best player availible and he was the right pick. Trading Mike Williams and Josh McCown opened up room for drafting a WR and QB in the first two rounds. Stanton may even see himself starting by mid to late season. They did address DE and S in the second round also so day one was pretty productive. I feel A.J. Davis is a good prospect with a bright future. Then there is Mr. Irrelivant, Ramzee Robinson. He actually has a decent chance at making the team. The Lions are improving and actually may compete this season.

Green Bay Packers
Who They Took:
1.(16) DT Justin Harrell, Tennessee
2.(63) RB Brandon Jackson, Nebraska
3.(78) WR James Jones, San Jose St.
3.(89) S Aaron Rouse, Virginia Tech
4.(119) OT Allen Barbre, Missourin Southern St.
5.(157) WR David Clowney, Virginia Tech
6.(191) LB Korey Hall, Boise St.
6.(192) LB Desmond Bishop, California
6.(193) K Mason Crosby, Colorado
7.(228) RB Deshawn Wynn, Florida
7.(243) TE Clark Harris, Rutgers
Key Team Needs:
1. Running back 2. Wide receiver 3. Defensive back 4. Tight end 5. Linebacker
The Botttom Line:
The pick of Harrell in round one was horrid. To me, it didn't make too much sense and it was aweful. I can't see how the Packers had him ranked as the best player availible. THen in round two, they reached for another player in Brandon Jackson. They could have got him in round three or even four. Plus, I think Vernand Morency is a lot better back then people give him credit for. He should and will be the starter this season and in the future. I think their best pick was with Aaron Rouse. He will come in right away and challange Manuel for the starting role. Jones and Clowney can come in and contribute early maybe too, though the Packers have like 10 WRs on the roster already. Crosby could have been taken in round two, but fell into round 6. I actually like the pick of him their. Another problem I saw was Ted Thompson not offering higher then a 5th round pick for Moss. He is Randy Moss! Overall, they didn't do enough to help out Favre. Dissapointing draft for packer fans.

Minnesota Vikings
Who They Took:
1.(7) RB Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma
2.(44) WR Sidney Rice, South Carolina
3.(72) CB Marcus McCauley, Fresno St.
4.(102) DE Brian Robison, Texas
5.(146) WR Aundrae Allison, East Carolina
6.(176) LB Rufus Alexander, Oklahoma

7.(217) QB Tyler Thigpen, Coastal Carolina
7.(233) WR Chandler Williams, Florida International
Key Team Needs:

1. Quarterback 2. Wide receiver 3. Linebacker 4. Cornerback 5. Running back
The Bottom Line:
The Vikings must really like Tavaris Jackson, because Brady Quinn would've looked good in purple. I don't disagree with the Peterson pick though at all. I never though much of Chester Taylor and I think Peterson may come in and carry the bulk of the role right away. I really like the pick of Sidney Rice. The Vikings need a big play threat as Troy Williamson hasn't proved much yet. Though Rice is a hit or miss becasue of his lack of experience, I think he will do good. I also really like the Marcus McCauley pick in the third round. He could have gone early two, and he can and should contribute early. Aunrea Allison is still developing, but shows a lot of potential. Alexander is a playmaker, but may only see special teams action early. As I posted before, I really like the Viking draft this year, They found talent that will help them out for many years.

Breaking down the Draft - NFC West

Seattle Seahawks
Who they Took:
2 (55) Josh Wilson, CB - Maryland
3 (85) Brandon Mebane, DT - California
4 (120) Baraka Atkins, DE - Miami FL
4 (124) Mansfield Wrotto, G - Georgia Tech
5 (161) Will Hering, OLB - Auburn
6 (197) Courtney Taylor, WR - Auburn
6 (210) Jordan Kent, WR - Oregon
7 (232) Steve Vallos, G - Wake Forrest
Key Team Needs:
1. Safety 2. Cornerback 3. Defensive end 4. Tight end 5. Offensive line
The Bottom Line:
Drafting without a first round pick automatically puts your team in a handicap. They addressed they need of a CB right away with their round two pick. Wilson is good and he may get right into the action. They also took care of D-Line needs. After getting rid of Darrell Jackson, they took care of WR with two near the later rounds. They had a pretty good draft for their situation.

San Fransisco 49ers
Who they Took:
1 (11) Patrick Willis, ILB - Ole Miss
1 (28) Joe Staley, OT - Cental Michigan
3 (76) Jason Hill, WR - Washington State
3 (97) Ray McDonald, DT - Florida
4 (104) Jay Moore, DE - Nebraska
4 (126) Dashon Goldson, FS - Washington
5 (147) Tarrell Brown, CB - Texas
6 (186) Thomas Clayton, RB - Kansas State
Key Team Needs:
1. Wide receiver 2. Defensive end 3. Cornerback 4. Linebacker 5. Safety
The Bottom Line:
Drafting Patrick Willis is nothing to be ashamed of. I believe he was the best linebacker in the draft by far and he will be a dominate player in his career. The trade up to get Joe Staley wasn't really necessary. Sure a good OT is great to have around, but where they got him and where they could have got him was a different story. They solved their need of a WR by trading for Darrell Jackson and still drafted the talented receiver Hill in round three. They helped the D-Line out in the middle rounds. McDonald was a good pickup for the third round. They tried to address the DBs but not until the later rounds. I have no problem in this becasue the players they drafted will contribute well. Good draft for the most part.

Arizona Cardinals
Who They Took:
1 (5) Levi Brown, OT - Penn State
2 (33) Alan Branch, DT - Michigan
3 (69) Buster Davis, ILB - Florida State
5 (142) Steve Breaston, WR - Michigan
7 (215) Ben Patrick, TE - Deleware
Key Team Needs:
1. Offensive tackle 2. Cornerback 3. Linebacker 4. Safety 5. Running back
The Bottom Line:
Their number one goal was offensive tackle and that's what they wanted to address first. I don't believe Brown was a top five pick, but he wasn't too far behind Thomas, so it wasn't too much of a reach. I really like the pick of Branch in round two. Though it really wasn't a major need, Branch can be agreat talent if he plays hard and stays in shape. He was a top ten or even top five projected player at the beginning of the offseason and his stock kept slipping. The Pick of Davis was good. They needed an LB and Davis can be good if he can can stay in shape also. he isn't the biggest, but he plays tough. Breaston will add in the return game and he may even play some reveiver. His stock may have been higher if he came out last year. They didn't really need a TE, but patrick was sitting on the board for a lot longer then he should have been, and it was a good value pick. After Brown, they didn't really look into their needs.

St. Louis Rams
Who They Took:

1 (13) Adam Carriker, DE - Nebraska
2 (52) Brian Leonard, FB/RB - Rutgers
3 (84) Jon Wade, CB - Tennessee
5 (139) Dustin Fry, C - Clemson
5 (154) Clifton Ryan, DT - Michigan State
6 (190) Ken Shackleford, OT - Georgia
7 (248) Keith Jackson, DT - Arkansas
7 (249) Derek Stanley, WR - Wisconsin-Whitewater
Key Team Needs:
1. Defensive end 2. Defensive tackle 3. Cornerback 4. Wide receiver 5. Running back
The Bottom Line:
Carriker was just what they wanted. He is big, strong, pysical and intense. He has ben pretty consistant thoughout his career. Brian Leonard was a wildcard in this years draft. The Rams wanted a RB, and Leonard can play both FB and RB in the NFL. He will be a good power back that can catch out of the backfield. I'm sure that was one of the reasons the Rams used the pick on him. They had the oportunity to take either Darrelle Revis or Leon Hall in round one, but passed on both. Taking Wade in the third round may be a gamble. He is a converted WR that is still learing the position. The picks of Fry and Shackleford add depth to the O-Line that is still one of the better ones in the league. They could have drafted a wide reciever earlier. Dante Hall probably shouldn't be the 4th string, but may end up there. They filled their needs failey well and had a pretty good draft.
