2008 Madden Cover Boy Announced
The 2008 Madden Cover boy is... Vince Young?
It may not be official, but it is still huge news. According to the Nashvillecitypaper, Titans quarterback will grace the cover of the popular video game. Many people expected MVP LaDainian Tomlinson to have earned the privilege, but not Chager fans and not Tomlinson. Because of the dreaded "madden curse," Charger fans had petitions going and all efforts were to keep LT off the cover. Well, he listened, and EA Sports went to another hometown favorite in Vince Young. Young may be a play maker with a lot of ability, but the cover? He is only entering his second season! If he gets bit by the curse, his career may be in jeopardy before he even accomplishes anything. ign.com actually had it close. They gave Young 3-2 odds to make the cover, trailing only LT, who somehow had 1-1 odds. This is what they had to say-
Will be on the cover becauseā¦ Won the national championship at Texas then stormed the NFL with the competitive fire and cocky attitude of a superstar, carrying the Titans on his back on a miraculous run toward the playoffs. If there was an "it" player at the end of last season, it was Vince Young, so I wouldn't be surprised if that momentum is carried over into the new season with the Tennessee QB on the cover. You can also throw in the fact that Madden Producer David Ortiz is a huge VY fan (did you see how the kid dominated the game last year?) and you might find the right mix of style and substance the Madden team is looking for. Won't be on the cover becauseā¦ If he's already signed, can we chalk this whole Pacman mess up to the curse? Besides, if you try to make it rain with videogame boxes, I think someone's head will bleed. I know, I know, Vince had nothing to do with that, but in the public eye, will all of the Titans suffer from guilt by association because of their ghost chomping teammate?
and they got it right.
While fans all around the world, participated in forums giving their own thoughts and opinions on who should be on the cover, not many stated Vince Young. Most of the names were of players like, Manning, Tomlinson, Gore, Chad Johnson, and players along those lines. I would have liked to see Rams running back Steven Jackson or wide receiver Torry Holt on the cover. Unfortunately, that wasn't going to happen.
Fans still will have to wait until later this year before they can actually purchase the game.
